I was very fortunate to be able to achieve many goals as a musician during the 1980s including releasing a single which charted in the top 10 in Newcastle and was designated as a high rotation track on the then infant MTV Australia, as well as working with some of the worlds finest musicians and producers including Phil Collen from Def Leppard , who produced much of the material for BB Steal. Scouted from the far north coast of NSW I was offered the job as bass player with BB Steal by lead singer Craig Schongrady who was an ex flat mate from many years previous. On the north coast I played in dozens of bands and had the opportunity to record at the now famous Music Farm Studios in Byron Bay. As a partner in a solid hired gun rhythm section I turned my hand to everything from top 40 to blues, from heavy metal to Country and Western. After BB Steal I put together the Rock band Back Street Shuffle, who were in my opinion the best rock n roll band I had the pleasure of working with. The band was to say the least volatile and each time we played no one knew if it would be our last performance. Lead singer Aize Lynch went on to join the Candy Harlots after the band exploded, taking with him a song called ˜What Are We Fighting For? which I co-wrote and was the song for which the band was signed to Virgin Records for. As for the clothes.. well hey! it was the 80s and we all know that was the decade that taste chose to ignore... For a short period in 1998-99 I ran a small club based Retro Disco called Back to the 80s. What a great way to make a living, and finally being able to admit to being an 80s casualty! Playing all the one hit wonders from the 70s and 80s as well as some classic time pieces of the day. |
